So I guess now is just as good of a time as any to mention something that I, along with my wonderful wife, are into.

My wife and I got married on Halloween last year. Yes, Halloween. You see, we’re both a bit, well, different. We’re both huge car dorks. Old cars, new cars, it doesn’t matter. We both love working on cars and we both enjoy going to the dealer lots to see what interesting things we can find. I couldn’t have asked for a better person, honestly.

Being the car nuts that we are, we both found out early on in our relationship that we both had a passion for old hearses. To some, this would probably be enough to scare most people away. Neither of us would really bring it up to other people. That would be an awkward conversation starter for obvious reasons. Not us, though.

This brings us to when we first started talking about our wedding. My wife is a huge fan of Halloween. I thought the idea was pretty cool, so we decided that would be when we got married. After working out the wedding itself, we started discussing what we would leave in. After a bit of thought, the choice was obvious. We were going to leave in a hearse.

Kinja'd!!!

This is what we left in. A 1993 Cadillac Superior.

The day of the wedding, things were absolutely unreal. We had planned for an outdoor wedding at the home of my parents. Here’s a little secret about outdoor weddings. Mother nature does not care when your wedding day is. What started as a typical warm summer’s day in south Mississippi turned into a bunch of storms popping up.... and tornadoes. I am also a big weather dork and do some storm chasing when I get the chance, so I guess it was nature’s way of telling us this was how it was meant to be. We said our vows under the carport while tornado sirens were going off. It was glorious.

Kinja'd!!!

Me, my wife, my mom, and my stepdad, with the hearse sitting behind us.

Some of you may not care for this, or think it was wrong. That’s your opinion and that is fine. At the end of the day, what matters to me is that I have an awesome wife who loves cars just as much as I do. We plan on eventually getting an old hearse and fixing it up. Our favorite is a ‘59 Cadillac, preferably a Miller-Meteor. It would be our first car project together and we are both looking forward to being able to get one eventually.

Kinja'd!!!

Never in a million years did I think I would end up with somebody who is just as much into hearses as I am.It may seem morbid, but it’s who we are, and nobody can take that away from us.

Kinja'd!!!

So there ya go. two gearheads who got married on Halloween, during a tornado warning, and left in the back of a hearse. Now that is a conversation piece.

I have a friend who used to have a ‘97 Cadillac hearse. On Halloween, he’d drive it around town with a fake skeleton in the passenger seat.

If I were to get a hearse, by choice it would be one of the ‘60 Flxible Buick ones.

Cool story. I look at it this way it’s your day do what ya want. Me and my wife eloped to Jamaica. Just her and me and no one else it was perfect. I gotta ask though who the hell did you find to rent a hearse?

That’s pretty cool.

I think weddings are boring, so anything that makes it different and interesting is much better.

Cool stuff. Good luck on finding and starting that first project car, I hope it leads to an even happier marriage, and not the opposite! I’ve heard stories about project cars... ;-)

Japanese Caddy Hearse for me please.

Kinja'd!!!

I like hearses too but I don’t think my wife would be on board me getting one.

That one is indeed cool. Wasn’t it in a movie or something?

“Harold and Maude” one of the best odd movies ever.

Thanks! I agree completely. The people who came were behind our decision. They all thought it was pretty cool, if a bit different. My mother actually knows the guy. He’s now the mayor/coroner of a town south of us, but he also runs a funeral home. This one was a spare that he had.He got a kick out of doing it for us.

Thank you! Hopefully once things settle down with getting to a new job and finishing up with buying a house we can start to look at the future and what we want to do.

If you haven’t seen it, given what you guys seem to like I would recommend watching it.

Hearses are awesome. I’d own one if I had the space. But I can’t rationalize owning something that big that is essentially a 2-seater (and too nice to use to haul the sort of junk my pickup does).

That’s understandable. It would definitely be something we just had fun with. Nothing like a daily driver, though that could be interesting.

Yeah, this!

Everytime I’m finding an ad I think: “Oh, that’s cool! And fairly cheap as well...”And than I think about it for a few seconds more and once again come to the conclusion that I just don’t want to sacrifice the rear seats - in my dd anyway.
